Dear Sirs

I posted 2 articles in the last week regarding  Below Deck cast member Raquel “Rocky” Dakota and her previous Reality TV Show experience. Here are links to the articles in question:

  1. 11/13: https://bitchbybravo.com/2015/11/13/breaking-news-rocky-dakota-bartlow-in-third-reality-tv-show-she-appeared-on-season-5-of-abc-tvs-wipeout-exclusive-videophotos/
  2. 11/11: https://bitchbybravo.com/2015/11/11/exclusive-belowdecks-rocky-dakota-bartlow-is-a-reality-tv-star-veteran-has-she-forgotten-her-appearance-on-frankenfood-video/

I have two questions regarding the casting of Raquel “Rocky” Dakota aka Raquel Bartlow in Below Deck Season 3.

  1. Below Deck is billed as a “Reality TV Show” following the lives of “actual” crew members work in the yachting industry. Did you know of Ms.Dakota’s previous participation in TV shows “WipeOut” and “Frankenfoods” when she was cast for your show Below Deck?
  2. Do you do any type of background checks for work experience during the casting process? I ask due to the obvious dangers of casting inexperienced yacht crew members aboard a multi-million dollar boat. As we saw on the television series, Ms Dakota and Chef Leon Walker set a kitchen fire due to negligible health standards (Leon) and ignorance (Dakota) who kept opening the oven, letting air in, which caused the grease to ignite. We also saw another cast member Dane unable to perform his duties during anchor watch. It was later shown Dane having a problem with alcohol. All three of these “players” could have caused boat, crew, and passengers alike great harm through sheer ignorance through unqualified experience for jobs they were hired to do.
  3. Why doesn’t Captain Lee have approval in who is hired for his crew? It’s understandable that your production team wants to create drama/interest for the show, but the Captain of the ship MUST have a hand in deciding who is qualified to be on board. Producers are looking for more drama than safety, so the Captain’s imput is vital.

Thank-you in advance for your response! I look forward to putting any inaccuracies to rest. As a fan of the show, and Reality TV on Bravo, I wish to shed light on the truth. Best wishes for continued success with Below Deck!

Sincerely, BitchByBravo

  1. Even worse than her inexperience is Rocky’s psychopathy. This woman turns my stomach…not because of her laziness, self-absorption, and immaturity…but because there’s seriously something off about her. This is a creature who’ll just get worse as she gets older. Truly scary. The men on board dodged a Fatal Attraction bullet…this time…

  2. Rocky appears to have low self esteem, poor boundaries, poor decision making skills, reactive, and possibly a personality disorder. Probably not the most stable individual for reality tv as it was uncomfortable to watch her decompensate over the course of the show. I love this show but fear the casting has chosen to capitalize off of her psychological instabilities. Shame on the producers.

  3. Love your articles – but correct grammar is “because of” not “due to” and you too many…I know it is widely accepted to now use “due to” in place of “because of” but it’s incorrect grammar….

  5. I completely agree with these questions. It really did appear that Rocky had emotional issues and at times appeared unstable and close to a breakdown. There was also a young man (deck hand) last year on Below the Deck that lied on resume, and messed up frequently and Captain Lee had to fire him. It’s apparent Cap has authority to terminate, but it’s obviously a difficult decision since remainder of crew have to pick up the slack. In the case if Rocky, the interior crew seemed to have to cover for her a lot. Even when Amy tried to mentor Rocky, Rocky appeared overwhelmed with the duties she was asked to do as part of her job, Her actions were disruptive to staff, can create possible dangerous situation for guests as well as crew. It appeared as though Kate acted professionally, never once did it appear that she went to the Captain to complain about Rocky. It’s one thing to have a crew member who is not quite up to par, it’s quite another to have someone as unstable as Rocky appeared to be. She did not being on this yacht, this charter season, or this show.
